Information Environment Assessment tool

The World Health Organization Headquarters, the WHO South East Asia Regional Office, and the WHO Country Office in Sri Lanka, together with the Health Promotion Bureau of the Ministry of Health, conducted a two-day workshop in Sri Lanka to support the co-creation and co-designing of the Information Environment Assessment tool. This was subsequently followed by a cocreation workshop in Thailand.

The outcomes of these workshops, together with the practical country experiences and lessons from Sri Lanka and Thailand, contributed significantly to the development and refinement of the tool.

I am very pleased to see that the Information Environment Assessment Tool is now available for use. It provides a timely and valuable resource for those working in health information, communication, community engagement, and risk communication.

This is particularly important in today’s rapidly evolving information environment, where misinformation and disinformation can spread quickly through social media and where artificial intelligence is transforming how information is created, accessed, and shared. Systematically understanding the information environment can help us design more responsive, evidence-informed communication approaches, strengthen public trust, and support people in making informed decisions about their health.
